Midnight Sun - F-14D Tomcat by BoggeyDan Midnight Sun - F-14D Tomcat by BoggeyDan
Although it is exactly 0000 hours, the sun still shines in the southernmost part of the Southern Hemisphere. Gryphus Squadron, with the help of the Aurelian Navy, was at last sent to attack the Leasath superweapon Gleipnir at Terminus Island. However, much of the Aurelian fleet was destroyed, thanks to the Gleipnir's ventral-mounted Shock Cannon. Though Gryphus 1 managed to disable the Gleipnir's optical camouflage, the ace pilot has yet to destroy its SWBM (Shock Wave Ballistic Missile) launchers before it escapes into the upper atmosphere.

This is Gryphus 1's F-14D Super Tomcat, in the usual US Navy low-vis color scheme (the default Aurelian scheme is way too Osean, BTW). Since Mission 6 is maritime-based, it makes more sense for Gryphus 1 to be still using an older naval plane at this point.;)

I pretty much have to say that the F-14 was one of the staples of my childhood.:D The fact that it was finally retired from US Navy service made me really sad.:tears:

Can't really say, but it certainly got crazier by Ace Combat: Joint Assault; the Spiridus can do a Pugachev's Cobra despite its massive size, and the kinda smaller Orgoi has the maneuverability of a fighter jet! O_o

For some reason, that paint scheme IS LIKE that Leasath paint scheme of my F-14 in ACX.

That made me love/appreciate the Tomcat more.

That's pretty much just the standard low-visbility paint scheme used by F-14s starting from the late 1980's. [link]

Eventually, as the 90's and the 2000's rolled in, the low-vis gray birds soon had colorful markings on them (on various occasions) once again. :D

And by the way, Ace Combat 04's Mobius 1 and much of ISAF use low-vis gray schemes on their F-14s by default as well. ;)

I never played Ace Combat X. I has no PSP T_T

Love the angle the F-14 is shown in this picture. You have to tell me how you draw aircraft this good!

I also felt sad when I heard that the F-14 was retired. I think it was the first aircraft I fell in love with. I mean who can resist the way those wings fold when it speeds up, right? XD

Glad you loved it, thanks!:D
I actually use a similar technique to ~Panzerfire's but traced with physical scale model photos (instead of vectors) as a basis.

Yep, I can't resist the swing-wings either.;) Maybe we'll have to wait for Macross overtechnology to come to us if we want swing-wings back!:XD:

But I hear swing-wings encounter a lot of problems so I think they won't be bringing those back in the future.

What do you mean by physical scale models? O_o

But if ever we get alien technology a la Macross (which may never happen at all:lol:), it's a probability.

Photos of 1/72, 1/144 or non-scale plastic or diecast models. I snap up pics from different angles, then trace over them in PS.

It looks better than my vectors although you could have added shadows to it you know ;)
But it's still good :)

I actually used a similar technique, but with a physical aircraft scale model photo I took (instead of a vector) as a basis.;) Next time, I will add shading and/or shadows!
The background is based on a hand-drawn sketch I did, BTW.
Glad you liked it, thanks!:D
